Practice Dialogue: Project Check-In

Practice Dialogue: Project Check-In

Characters:
George (GZ) – Project Manager
JT – Team Lead

JT:
Thanks for meeting with me today, George. How’s your team doing this week?

George:
We’re slightly behind, to be honest.
I’m not sure we’ll meet
the deadline without some adjustments.

JT:
I see where you’re coming from.
What do you think caused the delay?

George:
I think communication has been weak.
Some tasks weren’t clearly assigned.
Also, two team members are
out sick—bad cough, maybe COVID.

JT:
Oh no, I hadn’t heard that.
There’s a spike in cases now,
especially in Hong Kong and Singapore.

George:
Yes, I just saw the news.
It might be a new strain.
I wonder if we should return
to remote work temporarily, just in case.

JT:
That’s a good
idea. Let’s talk with HR first.

George:
Also, I imagine weekly calls might
help keep everyone on track.

JT:
Agreed. Do we all agree that
weekly calls are the best way
forward for now?

George:
Yes, I think we’re on
the same page about that.

JT:
Okay, let’s add that change
to the project communication plan.

George:
Sounds good. One more idea—
What if we create a
job shadowing system for new staff?

JT:
Interesting. I see your point,
but I’m not sure that
would solve the communication issue.

George:
Fair enough. Let’s discuss other options
in a more detailed meeting tomorrow.

JT:
Perfect. How about 10 a.m.?
We’ll work on some solutions.

George:
Great. I wouldn’t be surprised if
things improve with these changes.

JT:
Thanks, George. You’re always prepared.
See you at 10 tomorrow!
